8th Orpington Scout Group
Did you know that there is a thriving Scout Group in the Knoll area of Orpington that is associated with St John’s Church. We have a legacy of providing high quality Scouting and Guiding in the Knoll area since the 1950s but like all good organisations we need a steady infusion of new and enthusiastic leaders and helpers to take us forward Into the future. We currently cater for youngsters from the age of 6 right up to 18 and have a large waiting list of potential new members.
Our Drymen Explorer Unit, which covers the age range from 14 to 18, is particularly in need of adult help, although all our sections are always on the lookout for additional help to ese the burden on our current leadership teams. Having been a part of the 8th Orpington Scout Group for over 40 years now I can honestly say that it has been (and continues to be) an experience that enriches my life and helps me put back into Scouting what I have gained from it over the years. We all lead very busy working lives but volunteering is one of the most rewarding activities you can participate in and particularly when you work with young people. Perhaps you have been, or know someone who has, a member (or a parent or relative) of either our Scout or Guide family at St John’s in any sort of capacity so you will appreciate how important providing our young people with the experiences and adventure that you or maybe even your children enjoyed.
So I challenge you to think seriously to either volunteer to help lead our young people or perhaps you know somebody who might. And don’t worry if you have no experience; we have leaders like myself who will help out in the short term and guide you through the process as well as being always there for backup. So if you would like to give it a go why not drop us a message through our website at www.stjohnsurc.org.uk/youth-and-children/scout-groups/scouts/.
Who knows it might be the best thing you ever did.
